Portland Oregon Temple
The Portland Oregon Temple is located in Tigard, Oregon, a southwest suburb of Portland. It is the 113th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Tigard Oregon Temple was dedicated on August 19, 1989 by Gordon B. Hinckley. The temple is situated on a 13-acre (53,000 m2) lot at the end of a cul-de-sac on the southeast corner of Walnut Street and Gaarde Street. The lot originally belonged to build an LDS meetinghouse but was later sold to the grocery store Smith’s Food and Drug. In 1978, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints purchased the property from Smith’s. Ground was broken for the Tigard Oregon Temple on October 28, 1988 and the cornerstone was laid on May 20, 1989 by Hinckley.
The Tigard Oregon Temple has a total of 33,700 square feet (3,130 m2), two ordinance rooms, and two sealing rooms. It is faced with white granite and has a single-spire design. A statue of the angel Moroni tops the spire.
